SDR transceiver kit
SDR transceiver kit
If you are arrived here is because – i suppose – you are going to buy your first (or second?) transceiver kit. Well done! This article is to review the best SDR transceiver kit on the market. When buying a transceiver you must remember one of the best saying: if you have 1000$, you must spend 900$ for a good antenna and 100$ for the transceiver.
Who should buy a SDR Transceiver kit?
First of all people that like ham radio ! Who is an experimenter! Who’s a ham and non-ham. Who love to listen to shortwaves: From BBC to Radio China! Also air traffic control of your local airport.
Let’s start to list the best SDR transceiver kit:
Based on the chip RTL2832U + R820T. With this SDR kit, you can receive from 100 kHz-24MHz, per ottenere la ricezione da 100KHz-1.7GHz. The software is included and you can listen in every mode AM, FM (NFM, WFM), CW, DSB, LSB, USB.
Pro: Cheap, quite easy to use. HF / VHF receiver.
Cons: Not very sensitive receiver. Not a Transceiver!
SDR Transceiver kit from Kickstarter. This transceiver is called: RS-HFIQ. It’s a new ham radio transceiver kit. Nice, and practical as kit. You do not need to solder it. It’s included a high performance Software Defined Radio (SDR) 5W Transceiver for CW, SSB, AM, FM and digital modes. It’s not just another SDR. This SDR transceiver kit offers real RF performance for serious communications. Covering the 80-10M Amatuer Radio bands with excellent RX performance and 5 watts of TX power, using open-source SDR software for CW, SSB, AM, FM and digital modes, the RS-HFIQ sets a new standard for shortwave SDR communications.
- RS 918 SSB HF SDR transceiver kit. It’s a new transceiver on the market. It covers from (RX): 1.8-30MHz TX:All HAM HF BANDS. Operates in the following Modes: SSB, CW, AM, FM. It has 5W (Standard, DC 13.8V) , 15W (Full,DC 13.8V). The receiving Sensitivity is about 0.11~0.89μV. The dimensions is about (W × H × D) – 215×74×62mm.
We have received really nice review of this excellent, compact SDR Transceiver kit. It’s not very expensive (300$) and it has 15 watts at full power. It’s a chinese product with poor assistance but the construction is solid. Large LCD display. The radio is boxed within a quite heavy gauge steel case. Colour display works great. Menu structure is logical and very user friendly. Fairly good receiver with DSP processor. Mic is quite cheap.
One of our favourites. Not very expensive, portable and excellent SDR transceiver kit. Good receiver. For every one. It’s a all mode 160m – 6 m band transceivers. The G59 has only 10 mW but with the moduleGPA10 up to 10 watts 🙂
With only 300$ it’s yours!
- SDR radio online. Yes: you understood it well! You don’t buy anything at your side. You just go looking for SDR radio online. There are tons and tons of SDR radio available online. SDR Twente! (most famous one!) or the most used (in the last 1 year) RADIO KIWISDR.
KIWISDR infact is a new technology, opensource linux based software. With only 299$ you can also buy your radio receiver and put it online …so you can remotely access from everywhereI. It’s 100% Open Source / Open Hardware. Browser-based interface allowing four simultaneous user web connections. Each connection tunes an independent receiver channel over the entire spectrum.
5. SDR Project. It’s difficult to start your own SDR Project. This means you should have high competence in building and soldering kits. Before starting your own SDR project we recommend to study, to collect kits, to enlarge your culture about SDR. Good start is to become a good ham radio operator.
